Just over a year until we will be heading off on our Round the World adventure, and I couldn’t be more excited! Sri Lanka is our second stop after Greece, and we are so excited about this one! J has been to Sri Lanka before on a cricket tour when he was younger, but is excited to be going back to actually explore at our own leisure! And me? Well, I can’t wait, I think this is one of the places I’m most excited about, the food, the culture, the views, all of it! I have always struggled with spice in my food so in anticipation I’ve been slowly adding chillies and spice to dishes I make at home! Read on to find out about our Sri Lanka Itinerary!
A 21 day Sri Lanka Itinerary
So the plan we have set out for ourselves is starting in Colombo, where we enter the country! We have originally mapped out 2 nights for this at the beginning, as we will be returning at the end of our trip for another 2 before we fly on! I’m excited to see the hustle and bustle of Colombo, but I must admit I do prefer places with a more chilled out vibe! Though, I am excited to experience it, and who knows, maybe I’ll be a convert to crazy cities!
We are planning on staying a couple of days in Kalutara before we head further south, one of the main reasons we are stopping here is for the forests and rivers, as well as the beaches! I’d love to explore the Paniyawala rain forest and see many of the temples that the area has to offer!
I’m really excited for this part of our Sri Lanka adventures. Bentota seems to have the relaxed vibes I truly love as well as offering water sports and temples galore. We are planning on 3 nights in this area, though I feel I could easily fall in love with Bentota and want to spend longer here!
Continuing to follow the coast south, we hope to hit Hikkaduwa for 4 nights! We plan on truly chilling out here, as well as making the most of the snorkelling and diving attractions the area has to offer. I’ve also heard there are many quiet and less busy beaches I would love to find, as well as a great area for restaurants and drinks!
Galle is our next stop, and I’m really excited to explore the fort especially! I’ve heard Galle has had a amazing transformation over the years with money from expats and others buying property and putting money back into the city. There seems to be alsorts to do and see, from heading inland into the rain forests, to cafes and bars and beautiful beaches.
After Gall we will be heading north again to Kandy, I’ve heard from so many people that a trip to Sri Lanka isn’t complete without a visit to the central city. Wanting to visit Kandy Lake, The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and the Peradeniya Botanic Garden and much more we are hoping to stay 3 nights here.
Prior to Kandy we might have a 2 night stop off in Matara depending how many days we are over our plan, and then afterwards we will be heading off to Colombo again for a couple of nights for our flights out.
I’m really excited for our adventures in Sri Lanka, and if you have any suggestions and recommendations whether it’s things to do or places to stay, please do let me know!
